Stephanie Steck, 71

| September 25, 2022 12:00 AM

On Sept. 15, 2022, Stephanie Steck was reunited with her late husband Rob. A loving mother and grandmother, she passed away peacefully in her home.

Stephanie was born in New York City on Jan. 22, 1951. She attended college in Boulder, Colorado, where she met the love of her life, Rob Steck. They were married from 1973 until his untimely death in 1985.

A longtime resident of the Flathead Valley, Stephanie lived a full life. Photographer, sailor, Scuba diver and fitness instructor, she was a lifelong learner and adventurer. She worked hard to provide as many experiences for her sons as possible. As a young mother she taught them to ski and sail, hit a fast-ball and play tennis. She showed her sons the world, traveling with them from Hawaii to Alaska, British Columbia and the Pacific coast. Stephanie captained the Questa and crewed on a Tall Ship in the South Pacific.

Stephanie was a lover of animals and the environment. She planted a garden so big her boys could never quite finish all the weeding. A dancer, an actress, she was a hippie at heart. She was a homesteader and a homemaker. She could ride a motorcycle or a horse. Stephanie was a genuinely caring, passionate person who will be missed tremendously by all those whose lives she touched.

Stephanie is survived by her sons Jake (Katrin) of Bigfork, and Will (Jana) of Creston, grandsons Turner and Brady, as well as her loving family in Denver.

A wake celebrating Stephanie’s life will be held on Sunday, Oct. 2, at the A Bar in Ferndale, at 3 p.m. The family asks that you come prepared to share great memories and laughter in her honor.

In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to one of Stephanie’s favorite charities: Flathead Food Bank, Sierra Club Montana, or Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary.
