Screening of ‘Touch of Evil’ set at museum
Movie Night at the Museum continues with “Touch of Evil” on April 25, with an introduction by former museum executive director Gil Jordan.
Widely regarded as one of Orson Welles’ best films, “Touch of Evil” stars Charlton Heston, Janet Leigh, Joseph Calleia, and Welles himself.
Following a car bombing on the American side of the U.S.-Mexico border, Mexican drug enforcement agent Miguel Vargas (Heston) is called to investigate along with American police captain Hank Quinlan (Welles). Vargas soon realizes that Quinlan and his partner, Menzies (Calleia), are not working to solve the case, but are instead planting evidence in order to frame an innocent man. That discovery puts both Vargas and his new bride (Leigh) in danger as he continues to work the case.
The film also features Akim Tamiroff, Marlene Dietrich, and Zsa Zsa Gabor in minor roles. It won several awards at the 1958 Brussels World Film Festival and was selected for preservation in the U.S National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
The movie begins at 7 p.m. at the Northwest Montana History Museum, 124 Second Ave. E., Kalispell. Admission and popcorn are free but donations will be accepted. Soda, water, beer and wine are available for purchase. Seating will be available, but viewers are welcome to bring their own cushions or seating.
