WTC holds auditions for ‘Harry and Sam Dialogues’

| April 20, 2023 12:00 AM

The Whitefish Theatre Co. is holding auditions for its last Black Curtain theater production of the 2022-2023 season.

Auditions for “The Harry and Sam Dialogues” will be held on Sunday, April 23 at 7 p.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish. Arrive early to fill out an audition application, fill out a waiver form, and review the script. Enter at the north side of the building near WTC’s parking lot and conference room.

“The Harry and Sam Dialogues” involves two blue-collar friends who like to pass the time posing outlandish questions to one another. Why is life like a Ding Dong? Where do sandwiches come from? Why is reincarnation named after a flower? And, of course, if a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? Their dialogue initially sounds like a Monty Python skit, but soon deepens as the men use what they can from their own lives to make sense of what everything means. How are men and women different? How well do people really know each other? Is there life after death? As time passes, the questions, once shrouded in indifference, reveal the men’s characters, eventually exposing a truth that changes their friendship forever.

The cast is comprised of two men, ages 20s to 70s. The casting of ages will depend on who auditions, as both characters need to be similar in age. No experience or preparation is necessary to audition. Pages from the script will be provided. Scripts are available at valley public libraries.

Scott Plotkin is the director of this production. As a Black Curtain show, the actors will remain on book during performances and there will be minimal costumes and set. There will be approximately nine rehearsals and one technical rehearsal on May 5. There are two performances over one weekend on May 6 and 7.
