Hockaday holds pop up exhibit and art sale
The Hockaday Museum of Art is holding a pop up exhibition and fundraiser art sale in memory of Hockaday patrons James Udick and Mark Norley.
Over 30 framed works, plus over 100 unframed works on paper, donated by Udick and Norley, as well as other donors over the past five years will be available to purchase at affordable prices during the Give Back Benefit Sale. There will be a champagne preview from 5-6 pm, Friday, Aug. 11, free for Museum Members at the $200 level and above, or $15 door admission. The show will be open to the public Aug. 12-Sept. 23.
James Udick and Mark Norley, who died in 2020 and 2021, were long-time supporters, volunteers, and donors to the Hockaday Museum of Art and other local organizations. They were also passionate art collectors who traveled the world. They gave a portion of their art for the Hockaday’s permanent collection and as unrestricted gifts for a fundraiser sale.
This event offers an opportunity for young or new collectors to start their collection of original art or find that one-of-a-kind piece to add to an existing collection. Framed paintings and works on paper offer a range of subject matter, mediums, and styles, with several historic works from 18th and 19th century, and most works from post World War II to present, including works by established Montana artists and others for sale, all under $1,000. There will also be some books and posters for sale at prices ranging from $1 to $50. All proceeds support the Hockaday, with a portion of the funds specifically going toward the Hockaday’s newly established in 2021 Mark D. Norley Memorial Scholarship for Visual Arts, as well as the museum acquisition fund for purchasing new artwork.
All works were donated as unrestricted gift donations to the Hockaday specifically for the fundraiser. The Hockaday Museum of Art follows a separate process for donating artwork for the permanent collection. Those interested in donating artwork to the Hockaday for potential acquisition to the permanent collection, or for a future fundraiser sale or auction, should contact Director Alyssa Cordova at director@hockadaymuseum.com.
General Admission for the museum is free for members, $5 for non-members and $4 for Seniors or $2 College Students. Youth under 18 are free in 2023 thanks to a grant from Applied Materials Foundation, and active military and veterans are free through Labor Day.
