Law Roundup: A case of mysterious gummy worms
The mysterious appearance of several gummy worms in her vehicle prompted a woman to call the Columbia Falls Police Department, concerned about a possible stalker. She told authorities she was returning from Nevada, where her keys were stolen, and the first worm appeared in Missoula. She found a second, half-eaten worm in her vehicle later on.
A repeat caller let dispatchers know that she was going to have a man shoot a deer that was hit and left on the side of the road. The dispatchers advised her against it, saying that the precarious location of the animal made it unsafe.
Officers responded to a caller claiming her ex-boyfriend was sending harassing text messages and threatening to storm her parents’ home armed with a gun. When officers spoke with the ex, he claimed his one-time girlfriend was threatening him. Officers ultimately found no evidence of anything illegal.
After noticing a check missing from their mailbox, a resident went to the Police Department to file a complaint at the behest of their bank. The thief had cashed the check, they said.
Police responded to a report of a man threatening to break the window of a local pharmacy after employees told him they couldn't transfer his prescription to another store. When he showed up, he was polite and courteous throughout the transaction.
Dispatchers responded to a gushing fire hydrant on Martha Road.
A woman reported almost hitting a man in dark clothes walking eastbound on U.S. 2 on the white line. Police found the wayward pedestrian, who told them he was just out for a walk. They advised him to keep to the side of the road.
Someone reported a suspicious vehicle, but the owner was just helping a friend learn to parallel park. They confirmed to officers that the car belonged to him.
Dispatchers responded to an argument apparently so heated that one of the men began taking his clothes off.
A balding man was angry after learning he couldn’t purchase cold medicine without identification. He lacked an ID.
While making a turn, a woman was honked at by a car without its headlights on. It turned out to be a police cruiser, and the woman called to tell department brass about the incident.
A caller was concerned that two people were having sex in the back of an SUV. Dispatchers were called off after the vehicle left.
