Flathead Valley Youth Symphony’s inaugural concert set for Sunday

| December 6, 2023 12:00 AM

The newly formed Flathead Valley Youth Symphony will perform its first concert Dec. 10 at Flathead High School.

The concert titled, Sounds of the Symphony, will begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. The symphony, which is under the direction of Eric Holdhusen, is hosted by North Valley Music School in Whitefish.

The student musicians will perform pieces by Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and Dvorak. Tickets are $10 for adults. Students and children are free. Proceeds benefit the North Valley Music School scholarship fund. Tickets may be purchased online at https://bit.ly/FVYSDec23 or at the door.

The Flathead Youth Symphony is meant to provide learning and performing experiences for youth in the valley who might not otherwise have the opportunity to play and perform. To join the youth symphony, student musicians went through an application and audition process.

“It includes string, brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments, an important distinction that sets the symphony apart from existing high school programs that focus exclusively on string ensembles,” said Jessica Shaw, North Valley Music School director of opportunity.

“NVMS hopes the community attends to show their support of the efforts of these young musicians,” she said.
