Troy Henry Braaten, 6

| December 6, 2023 12:00 AM

Troy Henry Braaten, of Sheridan, Montana, passed away Nov. 29, 2023, just before his 7th birthday.

He was born Dec. 9, 2016, in Dillon, Montana, to parents Rodney and Amanda (Young) Braaten; and big sisters, Hannah, Nicole and Janell.

From a young age, he loved hay bales and tractors. He loved to go on the four-wheeler to the fields to irrigate; so much so, he used his own money to buy an irrigating shovel. His favorite season was “haying season.” He loved to ride in the tractor and bale wagon counting tiers and then go home and set up a living room farm with his toys.

He loved to make, build and “fix” things. He loved to give things he made or pictures he drew to others. He loved to be outside, playing, hunting, roping, playing in the water, playing in the mud, and making and growing their own garden with Janell.

When he was four, he started driving in the Madison County Fair Tractor Pull. He liked to beat his Papa in the tractor pull and figure out ways to improve. Last summer he added a set of duals to his tractor at Thursday night shop nights and named it “Super Dual.” He was a member of the Shootin’ Shamrock’s 4-H Cloverbud’s where he showed goats and lambs and built a wooden barn that he entered in the fair.

He attended Kindergarten and First Grade at Sheridan Elementary where he quickly made friends and enjoyed learning, show and tell, math, recess, P.E. and football buddies.

We are encouraged and comforted by his sweet spirit and love for Jesus.

He is survived by his parents; and sisters, Hannah, Nicole and Janell; grandparents, Dale and Bonnie Braaten of Kalispell; and Harlan and Pat Young of Backus, Minnesota; aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, too numerous to mention.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Ruby Valley FFA Alumni, Madison County Fairgrounds Improvement Foundation, Ruby Valley Healthcare Foundation, Shootin’ Shamrocks 4H club, Sheridan Booster Club or any other organization.

Services will be held at noon on Thursday, Dec. 7, at the Sheridan Elementary School. Lunch to follow, with the burial at 3 p.m. at the Sheridan Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 6 from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. at K and L Mortuaries in Sheridan.

The family would like to say thank you for all the love and outreach they’ve experienced during this time.
