Dorothy Arlene McVeigh, 91

Dorothy Arlene McVeigh, passed away Nov. 28, 2023, at the Logan Health Medical Center in Kalispell, with her daughter Allyson by her side. She was 91.

She was born in Havre, Montana, on July 22, 1932, and grew up on the family farm outside of Chinook, as the oldest sibling of four. 

She graduated from the Chinook High School in 1950, and immediately pursued becoming a Registered Nurse, attending the Columbus School of Nursing in Great Falls, Montana. 

It was while in Great Falls, that she met the love of her life, Frank, while on a blind date. They were married on August 12, 1953, and began raising their family in Great Falls, eventually moving to Missoula, in 1972. 

While in Missoula, Dorothy taught at the Vocational Technical Center and earned her master’s degree in education from the University of Montana. 

Upon retirement, they moved to Des Moines, Washington, in 1988 after their 10 children grew up and moved away from home. 

She deeply loved Frank and their kids, was dedicated to the Catholic church, and had several hobbies which included crocheting hats and afghans for her grandkids, and donating thousands of her crocheted hats to cancer victims and homeless shelters. 

She will be forever missed by those whose life she touched. 

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Dec. 12, with a rosary at 10 a.m., and the funeral at 11 a.m., at the Risen Christ Catholic Church, 65 West Evergreen Drive, Kalispell. The burial will be held on Jan. 16, at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington, so that she can forever rest with Frank. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Lucille Bressler; her husband, Frank; a brother, Richard; a sister, Kathleen; a daughter, Susan Diane; and a great-grandson, Anthony Charles Kuechmann Jr. 

She is survived by her remaining sister, Shirley; as well as her children, Michael (Marge), David, Joseph (Donna), Allyson (James) Kuechmann, Kelly (Mike) Morrissette, Patrick, Janet (Mark) Foss, Scott (Barbara), Jean (Rob) Lee and Cory; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
