Daniel Jay "Red" Ryan, 75

It is with great sadness we share the death of Daniel Jay “Red” Ryan of Trego, Montana Feb.1, 2023, at the age of 75. He passed away peacefully at Logan Health Medical Center in Kalispell, with both his children at bedside.

He was born in Oakland, California to Kenneth Malcolm Ryan and Betty Albertine “Abbie” (Kyle) on Feb. 15, 1947. He graduated from North Central High School in Spokane, Washington in June of 1965 then went to work for Nalley Foods in Tacoma, Washington until he moved back to Spokane and began working for the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1967. Working as a foreman on the railroad eventually brought him to Whitefish, where he later settled and eventually retired in Trego in 1995. He enjoyed rebuilding cars and built a large workshop where he spent the majority of his time tinkering.

He was preceded in death by his parents and eldest brother Robert Ryan. He is immediately survived by his siblings: sister Nancy Ryan and (Dave) of Eugene, Oregon and his brother Stephen Ryan (Annie) of Tacoma, Washington. He is also survived by his two children: daughter, Shéri Ryan Dirksen (Shawn) of Santa Barbara, California and his son Daniel Ryan and (Kristine) of Lakewood, Washington. Additionally, he is survived by his four grandchildren: Conner Ryan (25), Caitlin Ryan (23), Sophia Dirksen (18) and Taylor Dirksen (16).

A private celebration of his life was held Feb. 3, 2023, at his home in Trego.
