Maidens win Western A girls wrestling divisional

POLSON — The Ronan Maidens ran away with the inaugural Western A girls divisional title on Saturday, outscoring runner-up Polson by more than 45 points.

Ronan had 181 points to Polson’s 143.5 and third-place Browning had 114. Columbia Falls was sixth, and Whitefish 10th.

The Maidens had five individual champions: Saellah Nomee (100 pounds), Landyn Hughes (114), Katie Dolence (126), Brynn Courville (132) and Tirza Two-Teeth (235). Fren’s Rebel Montanez pinned Ronan’s Destiny Finley in the 120 final, and Juliette Cheff, also from Ronan, was third in that weight class. Polson’s Abighail Sorrell beat Leona Dodson Howe in the 152 title match and Pepper Featherstone won at 185.

Besides Sorrell and Featherstone, Polson’s other title winner was Venessa Wheeler at 165. Harli Kinney was second at 145 and Ciri Nice was fourth at 100.

At 120, Whitefish’s Sam Bennetts was fourth.

Per MHSA rules, the top eight wrestlers in each weight class advance to the All-Class State Tournament, held at the Billings MetraPark from Feb. 10-11.
