John MacLeod, 89

John MacLeod passed away on Sunday, Jan. 15 around 3 in the afternoon. He was 89.

John was born Sep. 4, 1933, to Duncan and Marjorie MacLeod in Chinook, Montana. He attended schools in Blaine County and graduated from Chinook High School in 1951.

John enlisted in the United States Navy in 1953, the first of two separate tours and was honorably discharged in 1957 with the rank of Damage Control Man Second Class. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1959. He retired in 1976 with the rank of Master Sergeant. He received many decorations and commendations during his tenure in the military.

After the military, John worked for 13 years at Superior Saw Mill in Columbia Falls. He worked as motel maintenance for three years and worked for seven years in the U.S. Forest Service where he spent most of his time in cabin and building maintenance before retiring in 2000. He had many friends and acquaintances.

John is preceded in death by his father, Duncan; his mother, Marjorie; and his brother, Angus MacLeod. Also, his wife of 58 years, Myrna MacLeod.

He is survived by his sisters, May Denning, Chris Senef, Ardelle Boshe; brother, Fred MacLeod; daughters, Catherine Umber and Kyla MacLeod; granddaughter, Kaylee Umber; and many nephews and nieces.

At John's request, cremation has taken place with no services given as he preferred family and friends to remember him as he was while he was alive.

A memorial reception for John will be held at the residence of Carl and Kim Anderson (406-892-0700 for any further information) at 18 Crystal Dr. in Columbia Falls on Feb. 11, at 3 in the afternoon.
