Registration opens for Cedar Creek Marathon
Registration is now open for Logan Health’s Cedar Creek Marathon set for Saturday, Sept. 23. Participants can register online for the full marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K events now through the day of the event.
“Sign up now to secure your spot in this one-of-a-kind race featuring the North Fork in all of its beauty,” says Krista Rufenach, event coordinator for the Logan Health Fitness Center. “The Full Marathon course offers scenic views of Glacier National Park and the Flathead River. The first 6 plus miles are gravel to give your knees a break while your eyes soak in the amazing beauty you are running along. All distances of this race get to enjoy the beauty whether it be on the gravel, trail or pavement along the North Fork Road. This course will leave you breathless in more ways than one.”
The full marathon run begins at Big Creek Campground and finishes at The COOP in Columbia Falls. The marathon and half marathon are USATF certified courses and give runners a scenic view of Glacier National Park, Flathead River and Cedar Creek.
“This event showcases all the Flathead Valley has to offer from our scenic trails to our fantastic lodging and restaurants,” says Rufenach. “Logan Health has collaborated with the Glacier Conservancy, and a portion of all the race proceeds will go to the Glacier Conservancy and therefore back into our Parks and other wonderful programs the Conservancy funds.”

Teacher raises money for Lego Club with STEM emphasis
Catherine Burgess teaches at Polson Middle School and runs the Lego Club at the school. Her goal for the club is to change the unfortunate reality that Lego kits are expensive and many kids never get a chance to build one. Burgess seeks to create an equitable, inclusive club where all children can enjoy, create and learn with Legos.
"All students should have access to play with them. I want them to use Legos for not only social interaction but a way to explore future careers in engineering and computers," Burgess said. "Something that most of these kids can’t even imagine."
Burgess got some grant money to get the club started but she's hoping the community will donate some extra funding to truly make the club an enriching experience for the kids. She's hoping to raise $500 on GoFundMe to get t-shirts, supplies and snacks for the kids.
