Law roundup: Man apparently trigger happy with bear spray

| July 12, 2023 12:00 AM

A man apparently possessing quite the cache of bear spray allegedly threatened to hose down a woman trying to get items out of a car. The woman told officers with the Kalispell Police Department that the man had doused her with bear spray the day prior. He owned three or more cans of the chemical deterrent, she said. Officers spoke with the man, who described the confrontation as an argument. The woman later asked that her complaint be dropped.

A bad parking job left a camper partially blocking a resident’s driveway. The resident called police to report the poorly placed vehicle, but said she was more concerned the rig would disrupt the flow of traffic given ongoing construction in the area.

Police met with a homeless woman after she was reported for setting up a camp in Lawrence Park. She agreed to move along as soon as the weather improved.

Someone reported a truck for parking in front of a fire hydrant.

A woman reported an older man harassing women, including herself, in an alleyway.

Another woman called on behalf of a homeless woman, who offered a description of a similar man who made unwelcome overtures to her. He apparently asked if she was sad and then offered her drugs.

Residents of a home refused to stop using a local salon's parking lot as their driveway.

Officers were again asked to deal with the noisy occupants of a local home, which was the subject of at least eight complaints thus far this year. The person who called in the latest complaint alleged the residents were the children of the homeowners associations’ leadership and thus had never suffered penalties for their ruckus. Officers agreed to run extra patrols in the neighborhood.

Worried about an elderly neighbor that seemingly had gone missing in recent weeks, a resident called police asking for a welfare check. The neighbor said they had messaged her without success and also knocked on the door. Officers learned that the woman had moved into an assisted living facility.

The employee of one store alleged that the owner of a nearby business harassed her on her smoke breaks as well as her customers. The offending entrepreneur also allegedly took video recordings of her. Officers helped the employee with getting a temporary restraining order.

A resident accused a neighbor’s dog of attacking their canine, leaving it with a couple of cuts.

A tenant phoned authorities after coming home to learn that her landlord had let contractors into her home. The two argued afterward and the landlord threatened to evict her. Officers recommended she contact an attorney as it appeared a civil matter.

After parking his vehicle, a man came face to face with a local resident armed with a gun. The gun-toting man instructed him not to park in the area. The motorist just asked that officers counsel the man about his hair-trigger behavior.

A man who allegedly walked into an area gas station with his pants around his ankles earned a talking to from police about being appropriately attired in public. The man claimed his pants no longer fit him and when they slipped off in what he described as a “wardrobe malfunction” a physical condition precluded him from bending over to pull them back up. His children confirmed the disability and weight loss to investigators.
