Janet L. Schalk-Jorgensen, 72

Janet Schalk-Jorgensen, 72, passed away from cancer on July 14, 2023, at Logan Health Medical Center surrounded by loved ones.

She was born March 20, 1951, in Elgin, Illinois, and attended school there, eventually graduating from Northern Illinois University summa cum laude with a degree in education. She taught grade school in Illinois, a reservation school in South Dakota, and was a paraprofessional at Linderman seventh grade. From Linderman, she taught at Kalispell Junior High as a special education teacher, special education department head, and often substituted at various grades in School District 5 after her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents Charlotte and Alfred W. Schalk, and is survived by her son, Kai Jorgensen, special friend, Howard Karp, her sister Su (Bill) Davis, and brother, Bill (Nancy) Schalk, nieces and nephews, and many students and friends.

"Jann," as her many friends called her, loved to teach, travel, meet new people, and just be outside experiencing the beauty all around her. Her positive attitude toward life was infectious and an inspiration to all who knew her.

Services will be held at Buffalo Hill Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2023.
