Rose Card, 90

| July 23, 2023 12:00 AM

Rose Card, 90, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Dec. 22, 2022 with her daughter by her side.

She was born in Jersey City on April 21, 1932, one of six children born to Mary and William DeCarolis.

She had wonderful memories of growing up in the city with an abundance of Italian relatives. She met her soul mate, a Montana boy, Lewis D. Card while he was stationed in New Jersey.

Their beautiful love story began at the Jersey Shore on the Ashbury Park Boardwalk with an offer of popcorn. She received hundreds of love letters over the next four years after Louie shipped off to Korea.

They became engaged through the mail, and they eloped, riding a train to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho where they were married. This city girl had the best stories of their honeymoon in a rugged family cabin in Trego.

They settled in Whitefish, later moving and raising their three children in Columbia Falls.

Rose enjoyed the best of Montana; golfing, skiing and hiking in Glacier Park.

She worked from time to time for Flathead County and took classes at Community College, but her passion was being a full-time wife and mother.

Later in life Louie’s job gave them adventures in Kentucky, Illinois, Jamaica and then back to Whitefish.

In retirement they were snowbirds enjoying Arizona and Mexico for many winters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louie; parents, Mary and William; in-laws, Lewis V. and Dorothy Card; brothers, Louie and Charlie; sisters, Vera and Josephine; and her daughter-in-law, Julie.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Lewis W. Card; Linda Lynn and Jeffrey Stevenson; William and Klara Card; five grandchildren, Lewis Allan and Andy Card; Tessa Stevenson Venetz; Kyle and Alex Card; her sister, Irene Popkin; five great-grandchildren, Addyson, Lewis Lee, Adriana Rose, August and Juliana. She also had two God children, Julia Canavan and Sarah Broussard.

She spent her last five years in Meridian, Idaho close to her daughter, Lynn. Here she continued to be an inspiration, taking a writing class and surprising her family and friends with her amusing and hilarious short stories and poetry.

She will be buried with her husband in Whitefish.

We will miss “the long arm of the mom”, her beautiful smile and laugh and most of all, her unconditional love. Rest in Peace Mama in the arms of your beloved husband.

Services were under the direction of Accent Funeral Home and Cremation.
