Glacier Symphony holds chorale auditions
Glacier Symphony is holding auditions to welcome more chorale members to its ranks ahead of its 41st season.
The Glacier Chorale currently has over 80 volunteer singers but wishes to continue to grow this number. The Glacier Chorale will be holding auditions for the 2023-2024 symphony season on June 16 and 17 between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.
“The Glacier Chorale is made up of people of all ages and walks of life,” said Chorale Conductor Micah Hunter, “We have college students, retirees, active professionals, entrepreneurs, stay-at-home parents, and all kinds of people you can imagine. The chorale is a group of people who love singing and love the choral art."
The audition process takes 30 minutes and includes a brief interview, vocalizing with some basic vocal warmups, tests of basic musicianship (which include a basic understanding of the piano keyboard and reading pitches and rhythms), and tonal memory exercises. No prepared solo is required.
Auditions are by appointment and take place at the Glacier Symphony office at 69 N Main St. in Kalispell.
For the past nine years, the chorale has been under the expert direction of Hunter.
Planned repertoire for the coming season includes performances of “Mystic Dreams: Glacier Chorale in Concert,” “Handel’s Messiah,” and “Carmina Burana: O Fortuna.”
Informally established in 1970 and later formalized as an orchestra and chorale in 1982, Glacier Symphony Orchestra and Chorale has a history of excellence in choral music performance in the Flathead Valley. Furthermore, since its founding, Glacier Symphony Orchestra and Chorale has been made up of incredibly passionate and talented musicians, and the organization wishes to bring on more individuals who embody these qualities.
"The culture of the Glacier Chorale that we try to uphold is characterized by personal commitment and responsibility — in rehearsal attendance, communication, and individual practice and preparation,” said Hunter.
