A Lakers rally past Loggers

Trever Cockerill doubled, tripled and scored four times Thursday, helping the Kalispell A Lakers rally past visiting Libby 11-4 in American Legion baseball.

Down 4-2, the Lakers (22-2 overall, 4-0 in the Western A) put up five runs in the fifth inning and four more in the sixth.

Cockerill’s RBI double started the rally in the fifth, scoring Brecken Walcheck to cut the gap to one; Cockerill scored the tying run on a passed ball. With two outs, the Lakers got four straight singles: Bryce Buckmaster drove in two with his, putting Kalispell up 6-4; Hunter Glidden followed with another RBI single.

Cockerill tripled to lead off the sixth, and came in with the next three Lakers were hit by pitches. Two bases-loaded walks followed, before Walcheck’s sacrifice fly brought in Braden Capser with the game’s final run.

Starting pitcher Liam Benson struck out eight in four innings of work, but allowed four runs in the fifth. Brody Gilmore and Dylan Buckner each hit RBI singles to cap the Logger outburst.

Libby, which also lost 11-4 to the Lakers on Wednesday, fell to 1-14, 0-4 in league. The Lakers host the Missoula A Mavericks Sunday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Archie Roe.
