AA Lakers split doubleheader Sunday

MISSOULA — In game one of a doubleheader Sunday the AA Kalispell Lakers took home a 7-6 win over the Missoula Mavericks in comeback fashion. The Lakers trailed 6-4 entering the fifth inning when Nate Skonard hit an RBI single to bring Kalispell within a run. The Lakers followed that up in the sixth with Carter Schlegel and Andre Cephers both driving in runs to take the lead for good.

Max Holden, Cephers, and Schlegel all finished with two runs batted in for the Lakers. Cephers was perfect at the plate going 3-3 with a triple, double, single, and a walk.

Holden pitched 5⅓ innings while allowing four earned runs and striking out three. Adam Nikunen picked up the win in relief after tossing 1⅔ scoreless innings for the Lakers.

Game Two

The AA Lakers lost a thriller in the second game falling 9-8 in nine innings. The Lakers trailed 4-0 entering the top of the seventh when their offense exploded for six runs to take a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh. The Mavericks retaliated with a pair of runs to knot the score at 6-6 and force extras.

The Lakers struck first in extra innings with Timmy Glanville drilling an RBI triple to make it 7-6. Glanville then came around to score on an Ostyn Brennan bunt to make things 8-6. The Mavericks rallied back once again this time in the bottom of the eighth by matching the Lakers with two runs of their own to force a ninth inning. Missoula held Kalispell scoreless in the top of the ninth and the Mavericks pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the inning on a single after seeing batters reach base on two walks and a hit-by-pitch.

Glanville had a team high four RBI for the Lakers and Oscar Kallis chipped in two more.
