GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Wyoming All-Stars basketball squad didn’t make any headway in its series with the Montana All-Stars, at least not on Friday.

Layne Kearns of Hamilton scored 22 points and sparked an early run that carried the Montana girls to a 73-44 win — the Treasure State’s 12th straight in the series.

Lewistown’s Royce Robinson scored 18 points in the nightcap, in which Montana’s boys outscored Wyoming’s 57-17 after halftime for a 92-44 win.

That was Montana’s 21st straight win in the boys series, all under coach Steve Keller.

The hosts ran off the first eight points of the game before Montana, swapping out all five starters, tore off an 18-0 run. Kearns had 16 of those points, and Montana took a 23-9 lead after one quarter and never looked back.

Alyse Aby of Laurel added 13 points, and Flathead’s Maddy Moy was next with seven, including a 3-pointer.

Montana leads the girls series 38-13.

Butte Central’s Dougie Peoples added 16 points and Seth Amunrud of Manhattan Christian had 13 for Montana, which led just 34-27 at halftime but quickly padded the gap out to 60-32.

Gallatin’s Eli Hunter chipped in another 12 points.

Noah Dowler, the 6-foot-7 Glacier High product, had four points for Montana, which now leads the series 66-27 overall. That includes a 21-0 mark under Keller, whose brother Wes coaches Montana’s girls.

The series continues Saturday with a twinbill at Lockwood High School. The girls tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the boys.
