Launch party set for new thriller ‘Deep Fake Double Down'
A launch party for local author Debbie Burke’s latest thriller “Deep Fake Double Down,” is set from 4 to 6 p.m. July 7 at the Bookshelf in Kalispell.
This is the eighth book in Burke’s Tawny Lindholm thriller series set in Montana. In the novel, Lindholm, an investigator, works with her attorney husband, Tillman Rosenbaum, is plunged into a shadowy world where lies appear more real than truth.
According to Burke, the premise of the book are deepfakes, manipulated videos or digital photos produced by sophisticated machine-learning techniques that create seemingly realistic but fabricated images and sounds.
“Celebrities are often the targets of deepfakes but they can be used against ordinary people as well. For instance, video ‘evidence’ could be manufactured to make an innocent person appear guilty of crimes,” Burke said in a press release.
Burke will be signing books at the launch party, which will include a reading by audiobook narrator Eve Passeltiner. Refreshments will be served.
