Fiber artist to be featured at Paint, Metal & Mud Mother’s Day social
Fiber artist Maureen Louden will be the featured artist at Paint, Metal & Mud’s Mother’s Day social planned from 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 12, at the gallery in downtown Kalispell.
Light appetizers and refreshments will be served.
Louden, of Kalispell, recently joined the consortium of artists that operate the Paint, Metal & Mud artists’ cooperative and gallery at 8 First St. E., Suite 104.
“When creating art quilts, I work from my imagination, as well as from my own photographs for inspiration and subject matter,” Louden said.
She has a degree in elementary education with an art endorsement from Montana State University. When Louden retired from teaching, she joined the Flathead Quilters’ Guild, and learned how to piece traditional quilts. She also worked at Glacier Quilts where she was surrounded by an array of fabrics.
“Then I found the world of art quilts,” Louden recalled. “We live in an area filled with talented quilters, art quilters and designers. They have been an inspiration to me.
Louden has experimented with dying her own fabrics, and has used other art mediums on fabric.
“I am trying to include more of these materials in my fabric art,” she said. “By using artist technique books and taking workshops I have learned many techniques to incorporate into my designs.”
Paint, Metal & Mud is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information, call the gallery at 406-755-8886.
