WHITEFISH — Whitefish beat Hamilton 8-2 Saturday at Memorial Field on the second day of the Sapa-Johnsrud Baseball Invitational.

The Bulldogs’ Maddox Muller was 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored and Jake McIntyre launched a three-run homer to dead center field in the bottom of the sixth inning to seal the victory for Whitefish. McIntyre was 2-for-3 on the day and also scored twice.

“McIntyre’s been doing it all season for us, great kid, great approach at the plate, he’s been crushing the ball,” Whitefish coach Kyler Blades said. “Maddox is also doing an awesome job, he focuses on up the middle and the other way and just hitting the barrel every time.”

Jacob Polumbus got the start for the Bulldogs and pitched 4 1-3 innings while allowing one run and striking out seven. Muller closed things out for Whitefish. He struck out two and allowed one run.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when McIntyre doubled then came around to score on a passed ball — on a dropped third strike.

Hamilton tied things up in the top of the second on a fielder's choice but after that Polumbus and Muller held the Broncs scoreless until the top of the seventh when Hamilton’s Cash Lawrence picked up an RBI single.

Whitefish honored their inaugural senior class following the game and the Bulldogs’ next stop is the state tournament May 18-20 in Butte.

“What a cool thing this was, so many kids coming out playing this awesome game. It’s a success no matter what happens next week but we’re gonna give it everything we got and hope to make a run.” Blades said.
