POLSON — The Columbia Falls girls showed off some speed and strength Saturday, and took a solid third at the Nelson-Thomas ABC track and field meet.

Hamilton swept the team titles at the meet, which was somewhat a preview of next weekend’s Western A Divisional in Corvallis: Only Libby and Butte Central were missing from Saturday’s field.

The Broncs scored 101 points to win the girls team crown. Corvallis had 80 and Columbia Falls, 71. Defending State A champion Whitefish had 42 points.

The Wildkats had some excellent times on a fast track: Ally Sempf ran a personal-record 25.82 seconds while winning the 200; she’s the third Class A runner to go under 26 this spring (Whitefish’s Rachael Wilmot ran 26.49, giving the Bulldogs three of the top five spots in Class A in that event).

In the 1,600 Columbia Falls’ Siri Erickson won in 56:17.51, a PR; the Wildkats’ short relay team also ran its season best, taking second in 50.69.

Whitefish’s Maeve Ingelfinger won the 800 in 2:23.93, with Erickson second at 2:25.07.

Bulldogs sprinter Brooke Zetooney was the best of a talented 100 meters field that saw Stevensville’s Claire Hutchison and Sempf join her in finishing in under 13 seconds.

Zetooney also helped the Bulldogs run the fastest long relay in the state regardless of class: 3:58.62. Wilmot, Ingelfinger and Kellie Klepper filled out the relay, according to athletic.net.

The boys team race was tighter: Hamilton (89 points), Dillon (88) and Corvallis (81) went 1-2-3. Columbia Falls was fifth at 49.5.

Among the highlights for the Wildcats was Malaki Simpson sweeping the 100 and 200; his 100 time of 11.03 was just .02 off his PR.

Columbia Falls sophomore Lane Voermans set his PR in the discus (157 feet, 5.5 inches) while finishing a close second to Hamilton standout Andrew Burrows (159-6.5). Burrows also won the shot put to help the Broncs take that title.

Whitefish vaulter Bowdrie Krack upped his PR to 13-3, good enough for second to Hamilton’s Taylor Searle, who cleared 15-0 for the third time this spring.

Ronan’s Connor Durglo hit his PR in the triple jump with a winning mark of 42-11.5. Polson’s Drifter Skillicorn won the long jump with a leap of 21-1.5, a PR and also the fifth-best mark in Class A.
