| May 19, 2023 12:00 AM

Big Brothers Big Sisters of NW Montana received a donation of $5,000 made by John Morrison through the Healthy Montana Kids Fund.

The donation will go directly to serve the children of Northwest Montana to provide professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring.

“We’re still recovering from the pandemic and now managing the rising costs of inflation, this unexpected donation will go a long way in recruiting and creating mentoring matches between Bigs (volunteers) and Littles (kids),” says Danielle Kelly, executive director of the nonprofit. Healthy Montana Kids is a program of the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services that offers free or low-cost health insurance coverage to eligible Montana children. It was created by Initiative 155, written by John Morrison who also led the campaign, in 2008 to ensure every child in Montana has access to affordable healthcare. The initiative passed with 70% of the popular vote and has helped insure tens of thousands of Montana kids.

“Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Northwest Montana serves a need that is central to raising healthy Montana kids,” said Morrison. “Danielle and her team aim to double the number of kids they serve to better meet local needs. I'm proud to support that effort and I hope others will too."
