Glacier boys tied with Gallatin for second at State AA

As expected, Glacier’s top doubles pairs made a good showing on the first day of the Class AA State Tennis Tournament at FVCC on Thursday under mostly dry skies.
Haven Speer and Sarah Downs continued their winning ways, advancing to the girls doubles semifinals, and boys doubles pair Harrison Sanders and Timmy Glanville will try to get into Friday's chipper after a successful first day.
Another Glacier pair, Colette Daniels and Katy Bitney, were toppled in the second round and won a consolation match before bowing out in Round 4. Ethan Woods and Trey Engellant also ended up in consolation and bowed out in their first match.
Will Rudbach started off strong and ran into a tough draw in the second round, Gallatin’s Mason McCarty, who won 6-0, 7-5. Rudbach will face teammate Sam Engellant in a consolation match this morning.
Flathead’s Alexis Kersten had no trouble with her first opponent, Butte’s Ashlyn Burnett, but Billings’ Skyview’s Hazel Demaray held off Kersten in the second round. Kersten is still alive in the consolation bracket, but teammate Isabella Parrott bowed out after two losses.
Matches begin at 8 a.m. today. In the event of heavy rain, play will move indoors to the Summit.
