Sanders and Glanville win state doubles crown, Wolfpack boys tie for 2nd
Glacier got a boys doubles state champion to help the Wolfpack tie for second and the Missoula Hellgate Knights ended Bozeman’s decade-long run as girls champion Friday at the Class AA State Tennis Tournament at FVCC.
Harrison Sanders and Timmy Glanville bested Gallatin’s Brody Smith and Braeden Butler in the final, 6-3, 6-4.
Gallatin scored 29 points for the boys title, and Glacier and C.M. Russell tied for second with 23. Helena Capital was fourth with 13 points.
Hellgate’s girls were unbeatable Friday, scoring 32 points to Billings Skyview’s 16. Gallatin was third with 15 and Glacier was next with 14.
Freshman Elliotte Banzinger won the girls singles title for the Knights, beating Helena’s Qayl Kujala and her sister Laine, won the girls doubles title with partner Brooke Best.
Best and Banzinger upended Glacier’s previously unbeaten pair Haven Speer and Sarah Downs 6-3, 6-0, in the championship match.
Flathead’s Alexis Kersten ended up fifth, beating Billings Senior’s Bella Rogge 6-0, 6-1, in consolation.
Will Rudbach was fifth for Glacier after topping teammate Sam Engellant earlier in the day and defeating Sebastian Silverstein of Hellgate in consolation rounds.
