Voyagers' big inning dooms Range Riders
GREAT FALLS — Up 2-0 early, the Glacier Range Riders gave up four runs in the fourth inning to Great Falls in a 5-3 Pioneer League baseball loss to the Voyagers Thursday.
Crews Taylor had an RBI double in the first inning for Glacier (1-2), and Ben McConnell walked and eventually scored on a passed ball in the second.
Charlie Hesse’s RBI single brought the Voyagers (2-1) to within a run in the third inning. Christopher De Guzman’s two-run double keyed the fourth inning outburst and put Great Falls up 4-2. De Guzman later scored on a Range Rider error.
Taylor singled and eventually scored on a Jackson Raper sacrifice fly in the sixth, cutting Great Falls’ lead to 5-3. Glacier had the tying run on base in the seventh inning and brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but got no closer.
Gabe Howell had two hits and stole two bases for the Range Riders. Starting pitcher Patrick Miner lasted six innings, allowing nine hits and four earned runs. He struck out five.
The teams play four more games in Great Falls before Glacier opens its home schedule Tuesday against the Billings Mustangs, at 7:05 p.m.
