LAUREL — There’s a lot of track and field left for the Whitefish girls, but they are sitting pretty good after Day One of the State A meet.

The defending champion Bulldogs ended Friday with 21 points, a handful more than they projected based on their season best times. They sat in second behind Hamilton, which has 24 points after six events. Dillon (20), Laurel (19) and Frenchtown and Hardin (18) are close behind.

Junior Brooke Zetooney had a strong day: Her time of 12.24 seconds in the 100 trials tied the State A record set by Sidney’s Stacey Rehbein in 1998. In between that and running the fastest 200 trial Friday, 25.17, she took second in a fast 400 and fourth in the shot put.

Corvallis standout Olivia Lewis won the 400 in 56.30 seconds; Zetooney clocked 57.06.

More points came from Maeve Ingelfinger, who ran a PR of 5:16.76 while taking third in the 1,600, and from Hailey Ells, who took sixth in the high jump. The Bulldogs also ran the fastest 400-meter relay prelim (49.05).

Hardin’s Karis Brightwings-Pease and Mariah Aragon went 1-2 in the 1,600.

Libby’s Rylee Boltz cleared 5 feet, 3 inches to take second in the high jump. Stevensville’s Claire Hutchison, who was fourth in the 400, won at 5-4.

Columbia Falls scored 11 points Friday, with freshman Soli Bullemer taking sixth in the pole vault, Siri Erickson getting fourth in the 1,600 and Ally Sempf placing third in the 400. Sempf (58.44), Zetooney and Lewis all hit PRs in that race.

Corvallis leads the boys teams with 21 points after five events, with Dillon and Lockwood next at 14 each.

Columbia Falls boys haven’t scored yet, but wait for Saturday: Malaki Simpson ran the fastest 100 trials time, 10.83, and the Wildcats posted the second-fasted 400 relay prelim (43.00).

Libby’s Cy Stevenson marked 52-4 to take third in the shot put; Hamilton’s Andrew Burrows won with a heave of 55-0. The Loggers’ Tristan Andrson was fifth in the high jump.

Polson’s Drifter Skillicorn hit his PR in the long jump, 21-8.75, to finish second behind Frenchtown’s Carter White (22-5.5).
