Law roundup: Man looking to reconnect with ex meets police instead
Employing his car horn rather than a boombox blasting Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes,” an ex-boyfriend showed up at his former flame’s home looking to speak with her. The only problem was that she was out, according to her current boyfriend, who phoned the Kalispell Police Department worried that the ex had brought a gun. He was also a little confused, telling dispatchers the attempt to reconnect struck him as odd since the former couple broke up more than a year ago. Arriving officers warned the ex about his outstanding warrants and moved him along.
With John “Bluto” Blutarsky nowhere in sight, a resident asked the police to intervene with their noisy, guitar-playing neighbors. The resident told authorities that the neighbors were going up and down the stairs and being generally noisy on top of the music-making. The troupe packed up and left before officers could respond to the area.
Outraged at supposedly being banned from a store on false accusations of shoplifting, a would-be customer turned to the police for help. He told officers that employees escorted him off the property the day prior and asked for more information, claiming he never stole anything. When authorities looked into the matter, they could find no history of the individual at the store and no request to bar him from the premises.
An irksome car alarm prompted a resident to seek help from the authorities. They said it went off every morning between 7 and 8:30 a.m. They’d canvassed the neighbors looking for the vehicle’s owners, but no one had claimed it. Officers tracked down the registered owner and learned it was his wife’s car. She parks in the neighborhood for work. He agreed to speak with her about the alarm.
Officers moved along a man found sleeping in a bathroom.
Flagging down an officer, a pedestrian asked that authorities investigate a suspicious gray truck parked in the area. The pedestrian suspected the truck was there while its occupants scoped out the neighborhood. Authorities were unable to locate the truck.
A one-time worker allegedly tried to blackmail his former employer, telling her that he would return her house key for a $400 fee. The disagreement ultimately resolved itself.
A man seen beating the bushes on the east side of a building caused enough concern for a passerby that they phoned the authorities.
Officers took a German shepherd with no collar or tags to the county shelter after it showed up at the doorstep of a home and refused to leave.
The manager of an equipment rental business told authorities that a customer pawned a laptop they had earlier rented from the firm.
