Auditions are planned to cast roles in ‘Admissions’

| October 26, 2023 12:00 AM

The Whitefish Theatre Company is holding auditions for a Black Curtain theater production, “Admissions,” a play by Joshua Harmon.

Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29 at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish. People wanting to audition are asked to arrive early to fill out an application and waiver and review the script. Scripts are also available at local libraries. Participants should enter through the north side of the building near WTC’s parking lot and conference room.

In this provocative play, Bill and Sherri Rosen-Mason are the white, progressive-and-proud headmaster and dean of admissions at Hillcrest, a New Hampshire boarding school. Over the last 15 years, they have worked to diversify the school’s mostly white population, largely succeeding in bringing a stodgy institution into the 21st century. But when their high-achieving son Charlie’s Ivy League dreams are jeopardized, the family's reaction blasts open a deep rift between their public values and private decisions, ultimately destroying friendships and bringing families to a breaking point. Winner of the 2018 Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Play, “Admissions” is a sharp-witted, devastating, and shockingly blunt look at privilege, power, and the perils of hypocrisy.

Roles are for three women, two middle-aged and one age 60 or older, and two men, one middle-aged and one who is college-aged or in his late teens.

Nancy Nei is the director of this production. As a Black Curtain show, actors read from scripts and there are minimal costumes and sets. There will be around nine rehearsals and one technical rehearsal on Nov. 10. Two performances are planned Nov. 11-12.
