Wrestling: Ronan cleans up at Western A

HAMILTON — Ronan’s boys rallied past Frenchtown in the final round to win the Western A Divisional Saturday, completing a sweep of the team titles at Hamilton High School.

The Ronan Maidens out-pointed Polson 248-231 for the girls’ title; Browning was third at 153 points.

On the boys side Ridge Cote pinned Frenchtown’s Travis Nygard in 34 seconds in the 120-pound final to spark the Chiefs, who were sitting second after the consolation finals.

August Courville followed with a pin of Frenchtown’s Pita Fish at 126, and Ronan was on its way.

Koda King (152) and Landon Bishop (170) added individual titles for the Chiefs, who finished with 268.5 points to 262 for Frenchtown. Defending State A champion Columbia Falls was third at 204.

The Wildcats had a trio of champions: Rowdy Crump scored a 5-0 decision over Frenchtown’s Nathan Hansen at 182; Blaise Cronk won by forfeit at 160 and Traic Fainter did the same at 113.

Two more Columbia Falls wrestlers, Dylan Delorme and Winslow Peters, were runners up. Peters lost a 4-3 decision to King at 152, and Delorme fell to Browning’s Tahj Wells by a 6-4 decision at 145.

Whitefish junior Landree Aurand won a 4-2 decision over Frenchtown’s Cole Johnson at 132; that dropped the Broncs to 0-4 in the finals, and they won just 1 of 7 matches in the final round.

Libby’s 205-pounder, Jace DeShazer, took just 27 seconds to pin his finals opponent. DeShazer had four pins in a total of 3:26.

Ronan’s Maidens saw River Cote (100), Saellah Nomee (114), Katie Dolence (126), Brynn Courville (138), Leona Dodson (152) and Tirza Two Teeth (235) all win their brackets. In Nomee’s case she beat teammate Amanda Webster 16-9 in the final.

Polson had Araeya Nelson (107), Abighail Sorrell (165) and Harli Kinney (145) all win titles; Browning’s Kaci Costel took home the gold at 185.
