Donna Lee Mast, 91
Donna Lee Mast, August 16, 1932 - February 4, 2024.
Donna Lee Mast, 91, passed away quietly on Sunday morning, Feb. 4, 2024 in her room at The Springs at Whitefish. She was born in Ashland, Nebraska, was raised on her parents’ farm, and received her education in Ashland, eventually earning her teaching degree at the University of Nebraska. She taught 4th grade students for forty years in Nebraska while also taking care of her parents as they aged.
In 1984 Donna married Ken Mast. They lived in Nebraska until she retired, but then moved to Whitefish, in 1994. She enjoyed traveling and had even earned her private pilot’s license. She and Ken travelled regularly, often to Alaska.
Donna was committed to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, as well as to her church family. She taught Sunday School at St. Peter Lutheran for many years, serving on the Council and as the president of the congregation’s Lutheran Women’s Missionary League chapter. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, as well as with the Calamity Jane Singers.
She belonged to the Red Hat Society, which supports “women in the pursuit of Fun, Friendship, Freedom, Fitness and the Fulfillment of lifelong dreams.” She was also a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (“helping women around the world advance through education”) and sat on the Board of Three Rivers Bank.
Donna made cookies and pies for a wide range of holidays and occasions, treating church members, doctors, her pets’ veterinarians, and a host of friends to her goodies. She also carried on a one-woman Card Ministry, mailing greetings to friends at church and around town throughout the year. We will miss her smile. It would make anyone’s day to see it. Even in The Springs’ Memory Care unit, she would keep smiling when she could no longer talk. All the staff loved her. We all did.
Donna's funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Whitefish. Donna will be laid to rest at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Murdock, Nebraska.
