Browning, Bigfork girls win big at Western A

BUTTE — Natalee St. Goddard led a balanced Browning scoring attack with 11 points, and the Lady Indians thumped Hamilton 68-37 in the first round of the Western A Divisional Thursday.

Shaylee Heavy Runner added 10 points for Browning (14-5), which will take on Frenchtown in the semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The Broncs (18-1) beat Ronan 66-40 to advance.

In Thursday’s late games Columbia Falls fell to Dillon 52-31, and Bigfork thumped Corvallis 69-17. The Valkyries will meet Dillon in Friday’s late semifinal.


Browning 68, Hamilton 37

Brooke Blue hit two 3-pointers and added nine points off the bench for Browning, which built a 30-15 halftime lead and had 10 players hit the scoring column. Teslin Trombley and Tashlyn Lazy Boy added eight points each; Tromley had nine rebounds.

Ashlynn McKern had a game-high 18 points for Hamilton, including a 9 of 14 performance at the line.

Ronan (8-13) kept pace for a quarter, but the Frenchtown duo of Madi Kaufman (21 points) and Mason Quinn (20) was too much to overcome.

Kaufmann shot 5 of 11 from 3-point land; Quinn had eight rebounds. Sadie Smith added another 14 points for the Broncs.

Kailyn Marengo and Maddy Illig had nine points each for Ronan, which committed 28 turnovers. Zailee Hewankorn had four points and six rebounds. The Maidens play Hamilton at noon in loser-out action.

Hope McAtee shot 4 of 9 from the field and scored a game-high 14 points for the Wildcats. Problem was the rest of the team was just 3 of 22 from the field, and fell to 9-10.

Kenleigh Graham and Halle Fitzgerald scored 11 points each to lead Dillon (16-3), which pulled away from a 22-20 halftime lead. Kylie Konen grabbed 13 rebounds for the Beavers.

Ava Davey’s 17 points led the way for Bigfork, which cruised out to 46-6 halftime lead.

Braeden Gunlock checked in with 12 points and 10 rebounds; Keni Wade added 10 points for the 18-1 Vals, and Haley Schara contributed six points and six boards.
