Floyd Steig, 84

Floyd Steig, 84, went to be with his wife, Betty Jane Steig on May 23, 2024, with a quick battle of cancer. Floyd was born in Bowman, North Dakota, to Gilbert (Junior) and Maye Steig on April 10, 1940, oldest of three children. Floyd attended school in Bowman and graduated in 1958, he worked on the family dairy and was active in FFA. After graduation he attended trade school in Wahpeton, North Dakota, for auto mechanics.

In 1959 he joined the Navy and was aboard ship on the USS Rockbridge during the Cuban missile crisis and was mostly stationed in Puerto Rico until discharge in 1963. He met his wife Janie in 1957 and after the Navy they were married Oct. 12, 1963, in Bowman. From North Dakota to California and then settled in Whitefish, which produced four children, a house, and a 33-year career at the Columbia Falls Aluminum Company where he retired in 2003. Janie passed away in June 2012.

He is survived by brother, Roger and wife, Pat of Minnesota; sister, Lynn of North Dakota; daughters, Barbara McKay and Kris Steig of Whitefish, and Jeri Murinko and husband, Vaughn of Spirit Lake Idaho; son, Brian and wife, Mandy of Kalispell; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. 

Graveside services will begin at 11 a.m. on July 20, at Whitefish City Cemetery.
