‘Footloose’ brings popular movie to the stage

| June 13, 2024 12:00 AM

Bigfork Summer Playhouse continues its 65th season with the ‘80s pop classic “Footloose,” live on stage, beginning June 19 and continuing through the summer.

Based on the 1984 movie of the same name, “Footloose” tells the story of Chicagoan Ren McCormick and his mother Ethel. When Ren and his mother move to a small farming town they are not prepared to deal with the laws of no dancing and no rock music laws set by the town council and the Reverend Shaw. The heartfelt story that emerges is that of a father grieving over a son he lost and the son grieving over a father that walked out on him. Ren sets out on a journey to challenge the adults with what they know best, verses of the Bible. Remind them that, according to Bible verse, “there is a time to mourn and a time to dance“.

With music from the iconic movie, “Holding Out For a Hero,” “Let’s Hear it for the Boy,” “Almost Paradise” and the title song “Footloose.”

“Footloose,” the musical, celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people while still being able to guide them with both an open heart and an open mind.

Tickets are available online at www.bigforksummerplayhouse.com or at the box office, 406-837-4886, open from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
