Children's theater performs Weber classic

| March 7, 2024 12:00 AM

Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theatre final performances of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” are this weekend.

The timeless and enchanting musical is set to captivate audiences with its vibrant storytelling, unforgettable music, and dazzling performances.

Directed by Brach Thomson, the show features a talented cast of young actors from the local community, the production brings to life the classic tale of Joseph and his coat of many colors with energy, charm, and a fresh perspective.

Performances are March 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. and March 10 at 2 p.m. at the Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts, 526 Electric Avenue, Bigfork.

The theater group will bring Andrew Lloyd Weber’s biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors to life in this musical parable. Joseph, his father's favorite son, is a boy blessed with prophetic dreams. When he is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and taken to Egypt, Joseph endures a series of adventures in which his spirit and humanity are continually challenged.

He is purchased by Potiphar, and thwarting advances from Potiphar’s wife lands him in jail. When news of Joseph's gift to interpret dreams reaches the Pharaoh (wryly and riotously depicted as Elvis), Joseph is well on his way to becoming second in command.

Eventually his brothers, having suffered greatly, unknowingly find themselves groveling at the feet of the brother they betrayed but no longer recognize. After testing their integrity, Joseph reveals himself, leading to a heartfelt reconciliation of the sons of Israel.

Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock 'n' roll, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless.

Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors, $11 for students and $10 for children. Tickets are available for purchase online at bigforksummerplayhouse.com/childrens-theatre or the box office one hour before each performance.
