James C. 'Jim' Eakins, 87
James C. "Jim" Eakins, 87, was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on Nov. 23, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on Oct. 18, 1937, in Marion, Indiana to Everett and Dorothy (Stephens), the second of three sons, older brother, E. Glen Eakins (deceased) and younger brother, Richard Lee Eakins (deceased).
Jim grew up in Marion where he earned the nickname of "Ghost." He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1958 and completed boot camp at the Naval Training Center in San Diego, California. In his 21-year career he served aboard four different US Navy vessels, shore duty consisted of being a recruiter. Proudly retiring as a chief petty officer.
When he moved to Kalispell from Southern California in 1996, he began an impressive volunteer legacy, serving for the American Red Cross, Neighbors in need, Relay for life and the Food Bank. In 2007 he earned the prestigious award of Senior Volunteer of the Year. Many came to know and love Jim when they met him walking and having coffee at the nearby malls.
As a long-time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, he volunteered in many capacities.
Jim was an avid collector of many things! He enjoyed playing cards and was an avid reader but most importantly he valued God, family and his country. Faith Free Lutheran Church became his place of worship in 2020.
He is survived by the love of his life of 64 years Prudie, their two daughters Debbie (Robert) Burgi and Michele (Dale) Goshorn; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at Johnson-Golshat Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 29, from 5-7 p.m.
A celebration of life will be held at 11a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, at Faith Free Lutheran Church.
