Montana Tech hands Eastern Oregon first loss

BUTTE — Landers Smith ran for 94 yards with two touchdowns as Montana Tech gave Eastern Oregon their first loss of the season in a 42-35 win in Frontier Conference football on Saturday. 


Montana Tech’s quarterback Blake Thelen threw for 225 yards with two touchdowns through the air and one on the ground. Logan Kennedy caught seven passes for 80 yards and a touchdown. 


Eastern Oregon outgained Montana Tech with 494 total yards of offense, while Montana Tech accumulated 369. Easter Oregon’s Blake Asciutto threw for 309 yards and two touchdowns while Gunner Yates ran for 139 yards and two touchdowns. 


In a shootout game, the opening play ended up being the difference as Levi Torgerson returned the kickoff for a 95-yard touchdown and Montana Tech never trailed the rest of the game.  


Carrol 43, Montana Northern 12 

HELENA — Jack Prka threw for 181 yards and accounted for three touchdowns, as Carroll jumped out to a big 30-0 lead and held on to beat Montana Western at Nelson Stadium. 


Chris Akulshin was Prka’s favorite target, catching four passes for 70 yards with a touchdown. Asher Cray’s only catch of the day went for a 29-yard touchdown. 


Carrol’s defense held Montana Northern to 152 total yards and sacked quarterback Tyson Buckley five times. Their special teams also stepped up with Forrest Suero returning a punt for a 38-yard touchdown. 


Carroll’s rushing offense only averaged three yards per carry, but Akulshin and Archie LaFurge were both able to find the endzone.  


College of Idaho 49, Rocky Mountain 31 

BILLINGS — College of Idaho’s quarterback Andy Peters threw for 338 yards, ran for 89 and scored four times for a road win over Rocky Mountain at Herb Klindt field. 


Tommy Hauser caught five passes for 121 yards and a touchdown while running back Hunter Gilbert ran for 83 yards and two scores. 


Rocky Mountain’s Graedyn Buell threw for 371 yards, with three touchdowns through the air and another on the ground. Rocky Mountain’s running game was stifled, averaging just 2.3 yards a carry. 


DeNiro Killian and Jack Waddell each caught five passes, Killian’s going for 100 yards and a touchdown while Waddell’s went for 82 yards.
