The 29th annual Shriner’s Hospital Chili Cook-Off, Beerfest and Wiener Dog Races are slated to be in full swing at the Spinnaker Bar and Casino parking lot in Lakeside on Sept. 21.

The beerfest starts at 3 p.m., chili tasting competition at 4 p.m., and a 5 p.m. registration followed by the Parade of Dogs and Races will fill the day.  Whether a chili chef, Dachshund (“wiener dog”) owner or just looking for an entertaining way to spend the afternoon, come join in the fun.

Fees are $6 for children 10 and under, $8 buys spectators unlimited chili tasting and $20 gives the public unlimited tasting of chili and craft beers.  All proceeds benefit the travel fund for care givers of those children who need services at the Spokane Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.  At the Shriner’s Hospitals, all medical services are free to children up to age 18, but family travel costs must be covered by the families.

Chili competitors pay a $25 entry fee and set up 2:30-3 p.m. with a minimum of two gallons of chili and any set-up extras such as, serving utensils, extension cord, side dish(s), table, chairs, umbrella, etc., in competition for the honor of being selected for the People’s Choice and/or Judges’ Choice Award.  Spinnaker will provide power, a limited number of tables, cups, napkins, and spoons.

Dachshund handlers need to pay an entry fee of $5, have a starter and catcher for each dog, and register on the grassy area by 5 p.m. the day of the race.
