In 1934, she moved with her parents to Kalispell, where her father obtained a barbering job at the Owl Barbershop. The family reached Kalispell by way of the new Going-to-the-Sun Road through Glacier Park. The road had only been opened the year before. They traveled in a 1927 Nash sedan.

Faye attended grade school at Central School in Kalispell and graduated from Flathead County High School in 1945. She was confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church and remained active in the Lutheran faith. After high school, she attended and graduated from Northern Montana College, Havre, in 1947. She taught elementary school in Missoula and Medford, Oregon.

In 1951, she married Alman "Bill" Hegland at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Kalispell. They made their home in Spokane, Washington where Bill worked for Northern Pacific Railroad. Four children were born to this family. They lived in several locations in the Midwest. While she lived in Superior, Wisconsin, Faye earned a social work degree from the University of Wisconsin and worked in that field until she and her husband retired to Lakeside, Montana in 1980.

Faye enjoyed music, reading, flowers, birdwatching and keeping in touch with dear friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bill.

She is survived by her children, David (Patti), Mark, LynneMarie, Gayle (Paul Tucker); grandchildren, Amber Sienknecht (Travis) and Christopher Tiger Harris (Samantha), as well as her sister, Donna Boam (Ted), and her sister’s three children.

A private family memorial service will be held in keeping with Faye’s preferences. Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home in Kalispell is handling the arrangements.
