Law roundup: SUV doubles as doggy day care

A pet owner had to work out new arrangements for their dog after a passerby spotted it inside a parked vehicle and phoned the Kalispell Police Department to report animal cruelty. The dog had been inside a gold Chevrolet Trailblazer left in a parking lot for more than an hour, the caller said. The windows were cracked and it looked as though the pooch was trying to break out or get some fresh air. The police tracked down the pup's owner, who agreed to keep it with his mother-in-law while he and his wife worked going forward.  

Concerned about the young guys in a four-door Chevrolet truck driving recklessly, including up on the sidewalk, and tailgating him, a motorist asked the authorities give them a reminder of the rules of the road. Officers found the offending vehicle and gave the driver a warning.  

Two women resting in the shade in public struck a passerby as suspicious. They told the police that it looked as though one was passed out. Officers found the pair and determined they were OK and not committing any crimes.  

Worried about her husband's descent into alcoholism, a woman contacted the police in the hopes they would stop him while he drove drunk and charge him with a DUI. Officers provided her with information about rehab.  

One member of a former couple contacted the police after he learned via Facebook that he had been accused of stealing items from his ex.  

A drunk driver struck a homeowner's fence. The wreck was caught on a neighbor's camera and the footage later turned over to investigators.  

Officers ended up going on a little walk as they tried to track down a report of a campsite in a park. The individual who reported it described the area as a mess, with clothes and needles strewn about. They suspected it was a homeless encampment. But officers were unable to find any signs of a camp or loose property.  

Frustrated with his son's drinking, a resident had kicked the younger man off the family property. The man moved out, but security cameras had caught him coming back onto the land without permission. 

A man with a Washington driver's license earned a ticket for reckless driving after cameras caught him speeding up and down the aisles in a parking lot and drifting around people. The motorist was subsequently banned from the parking lot.
