Fogel hits 3 home runs, including walk-off
After holding onto a four-run lead most of the game, the Glacier Range Riders bullpen gave up six runs over the final two frames, including a three-run walk-off homer by Adam Fogel and dropped the series finale to the Missoula PaddleHeads 10-9 on Sunday.
It was the third home run of the game for Fogel after hitting a three-run shot in the first inning to tie the game at three, before adding a two-run shot in the eighth inning to bring the PaddleHeads (12-6 in the second half) within two runs, setting up the ninth inning. He finished the day 4-for-5 with four runs scored and eight RBIs.
Jack Lynch started the scoring for the Range Riders (8-10) in the second half with a two-run single, followed by Kingston Liniak’s sacrifice fly for an early 3-0 lead. Glacier plated four more runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by Lynch’s two-run triple to extend their lead to 8-3 before the PaddleHeads mounted their comeback.
After Fogel’s second home run of the game, Taylor Smith connected on a solo shot in the eighth inning to bring the PaddleHeads within one run. Liniak doubled in the top half of the ninth inning to extend their lead to 9-7 before Fogel’s heroics.
Rayne Supple came in with a save opportunity and retired Jeremy Piatkiewicz for the first out of the ninth before walking Colin Gordon. He struck out Leyton Barry before a walk to Roberto Pena set the stage for Fogel’s walk off shot over the right field wall.
After taking the first game of the series, the Range Riders dropped the final two games of the three-game set. Lynch led the way with three hits and four RBIs; Liniak added two hits and two runs driven in. Grant Taylor pitched six innings allowing seven hits and four earned runs, striking out six in the no decision.
