Kennedy-Stark Center grand opening Aug. 18

BOZEMAN — Montana State University and Bobcat Athletics officially unveils the Kennedy-Stark Athletic Center with a grand opening on Aug. 18 at 4 p.m. inside the new practice and competition facility.

The event marks the first opportunity for Bobcat fans to experience the new structure, which is named for legendary Bobcat Track and Field coaches Dale Kennedy and Rob Stark. The turf surface of 100 yards offers an enclosed practice area for the MSU football team, while the six-lane track offers the Cats an indoor training and competition venue with jump, vault and throwing areas. 

The event will feature a short program, a ribbon cutting and an open house. It is free, and the public is invited. 


Warranty repairs for Griz facility

MISSOULA — The Grizzly Indoor Practice Facility began undergoing warranty repairs, upgrades, and routine maintenance on Monday, according to a statement posted at the University of Montana website    gogriz.com. 

The inflatable structure has been taken down and is being returned to the manufacturer at its cost, and be available again around the third week in September.  

“There is a break-in period with inflatable facilities of this type. As the temperature changes, weak spots can be exposed from the natural expansion and contraction of the material during the first year of use,” the statement said. 

The practice field and track will remain available for use while the bubble is being repaired. 


Malby prevails in Pendleton 

PENDELTON, Ore. — Kalispell’s Ryan Malby, a PGA professional at Iron Horse Golf Club, won his fourth straight Senior Oregon Open Invitational title on July 31. 

The former Idaho Vandals golfer Malby shot rounds of 65, 69 and 67 for a three-day total of 15-under 201 at Wildorse Resort and Casino. Malby won by four strokes and took home $6,000. 

Malby teamed with Jon Lowry, Jose Chirino and Chuck Eble of Buffalo Hill Golf Club to finish in a tie for 10th in the team scramble, at 29-under. A group that included Missoula Country Club members Bill Dunn and John Velk tied fror second at 34-under. 

 

All right, Hamilton

TC Hamilton notched a hole-in-one on No. 16 at Northern Pines Golf Club on Saturday. 

The 184-yard shot was witnessed by Robert Rigg, Chad Hamilton and Fletcher Hamilton. The club used was not available. 


Meadow Lake ace for Schlegel

COLUMBIA FALLS — Chris Schlegel made a hole-in-one at Meadow Lake Golf Course on July 23. 

Schlegel used a 9-iron to ace he 144-yard No. 12. Witnesses were Josh Smith, Mark Johnson and Jason Williams.
