Schafer shuts down Mustangs in Range Riders win
Luke Schafer delivered a complete game and allowing four hits for the Glacier Range Riders as they defeated the Billings Mustangs 3-1 Tuesday at Glacier Bank Park.
The Range Riders (9-10 in the second half) were able to get on the board first when Jack Lynch homered in the bottom of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. This was Lynch’s eighth homer of the season and his 34th RBI.
Angel Mendoza singled in the fourth to bring Jake Millan home and increase the lead to 3-0.
The Mustangs (9-10) scored their only run of the game in the sixth inning when Cameron Bowen hit a sacrifice fly to center field, Kyle Micklus scored to narrow the deficit to 3-1.
Schafer threw 104 pitches to finish the night, he improves his record to 6-1. He fanned nine batters on the evening.
Julian Garcia started for Billings giving up nine hits and three runs. CJ Colyer pitched one inning for the Mustangs in the eighth.
The teams continue their six-game series Wednesday, but the game was still going at press time.
