Briefs: Village Greens ace for Syverson
Sam Syverson, a senior on the Glacier High golf team, made a hole-in-one at Village Greens on Aug. 10.
Syverson used a gap wedge to ace the 115-yard fifth hole. Witnessing the shot were Luke Nelson, Cheryl Ashe and Jeff Ashe.
Lamson named Cats’ starting QB
Justin Lamson, the graduate transfer from Stanford, was named the starting quarterback for the Montana State Bobcats on Monday.
The Bobcats released their two-deep ahead of their season opener at Oregon, which is at 2 p.m. Mountain on the Big 10 Network.
Last fall Lamson rushed for eight touchdowns for the Cardinal, breaking the school’s single-season record for a quarterback. Jim Plunkett and Kevin Hogan shared the old record of six. Lamson also was 27 of 47 passing for 300 yards and four scores, playing in all 12 games with one start.
Sophomore Patrick Duchien of Florence is listed as No. 2 at QB.
CFL Tiger-Cats add Braxton Hill
Braxton Hill, an all-Big Sky Conference linebacker for the Montana Grizzlies in 2023, was signed to the practice roster of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League on Monday, montanasports.com reported.
Hill, an All-American and first-team all-Big Sky selection as a senior, spent part of the 2024 season with the CFL’s Saskatchewan Rough Riders. A walk-on out of Anaconda, Hill made 231 career tackles in 51 games with the Griz from 2019-23.
The 6-4 Tiger-Cats lead the CFL’s East Division.
