Boys roundup: Curley bucket lifts Polson over Ronan

RONAN — Malakai Curley poured in 28 points, including a short turnaround jumper with 2.5 seconds left that lifted Polson over Ronan 62-60 in Northwest A boys basketball Saturday.

Curley hit three 3-pointers and 7 of 15 free throws. His two freebies at the 1:52 mark capped an 8-0 run that put the Pirates in front 58-57. 

Jhett McDonald’s transition 3-pointer put Ronan back in front 60-58 with 1:21 left.  

Polson (7-5 overall, 4-2 in the Northwest A) tied the game with 42 seconds left on a putback-and-harm by Cody Haggard, though he missed the free throw. After Ronan turned the ball over with 15 seconds left, the Pirates worked the ball into Curley for the game-winner. 

Kolby Finley scored 16 points to lead Ronan (8-4, 4-2 in league), 11 coming in the Chiefs’ 25-point third quarter.

LIBBY — Jude Reevis scored 12 points and Browning scored a convincing bounce-back victory after falling at Columbia Falls Friday. 

Royce Mad Plume hit two 3-pointers and scored 11 points for Browning (7-4 overall, 4-1 in the Northwest A). Eight of his points came in the second quarter when the Indians pushed a 13-12 lead out to 38-17. Eleven out of 12 Browning players scored.  

Bransen Holzer scored 12 points to lead the Loggers.
