Flathead boys fall; games in Kalispell postponed

MISSOULA — Zane Gillhouse led a balanced Missoula Hellgate offense with 13 points, and the host Knights weathered a couple Flathead charges to take a 64-56 Western AA boys basketball win Saturday.

Jordan Griffin scored 25 points for the Braves, who trailed 13-4 early and 32-24 at halftime, but battled back in the third quarter. Flathead closed to 32-30 on Lyric Ersland’s 3-pointer at the 6:51 mark and 34-32 on Korbin Eaton’s layup at 4:33.  

The Braves had chances to take the lead, but their next four possessions netted two missed shots and two turnovers. Easton Sant eventually hit a pull-up jumper to put the Knights ahead 39-34, and the gap stayed at least four the rest of the way. 

Eaton added 13 points for Flathead; he and Ersland each hit two 3-pointers, while Griffin knocked down three.

3 games in Kalispell postponed

Winter weather and poor driving conditions led Missoula Sentinel and Missoula Hellgate to postponed basketball games to be played in Kalispell Saturday afternoon. 

The Sentinel Spartans were to play a varsity doubleheader at Glacier High beginning with the girls basketball game at 1 p.m. The games have been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 18. The sophomore games will tip off at 1 p.m. that day, followed by junior varsity girls, then JV boys. The varsity girls game is set for 5:30 p.m. and the boys varsity game for 7 p.m. 

Flathead High was to host the Hellgate girls as well Saturday; that game will be made up on Tuesday, Feb. 11. Game times are 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. for sub-varsity, and 5 p.m. for the varsity.
