Law roundup: Abandoned black bag scares staff
A store manager called the Kalispell Police Department because employees were afraid to pick up a black bag that had been sitting in the parking lot for at least 24 hours. Officers collected the bag without incident.
A woman reported her gas cap was stolen a few days ago.
A store customer was concerned about child abuse and wanted officers to do a welfare check after allegedly overhearing a woman with a 3-year-old child say she didn’t have money. An officer spoke to the man who said the child was properly dressed and looked healthy, advising him that, “It’s not illegal to be poor.”
A senior citizen with a “fiery personality” was reported missing after her daughter and another individual noticed her purse, phone and cane were left in her house. They didn’t think she went to the hospital because she had gone bowling the previous day. Officers located her.
Someone was concerned about drug activity when they spotted three people passing an item around inside a car parked in front of the business. Officers determined the occupants were passing a marijuana pipe but did not smell a marijuana odor and the driver said, “They were out and not smoking.” The trio was told to move along.
A contractor went to the police department for assistance with issues involving a colleague who reportedly was withholding their paycheck and “talking badly” about them to other clients.
Someone complained about snowplows having to go around a car that had been abandoned at the location before the “first large snowfall.” A notice to move was placed on the vehicle.
