Wildkats built big lead in win over Polson

COLUMBIA FALLS — Onni Lawrence led a balanced Columbia Falls attack with 12 points, and the Wildkats built a 38-15 halftime lead en route to a 56-39 Northwest A girls basketball win over Polson Thursday.

Kierra Kemppainen and Taryn Borgen each hit two 3-pointers in the first half for Columbia Falls (5-6 overall, 3-2 in Northwest A games). Borgen and Rylee Sweeney each scored 10 points. 

Hinkley Moss had 11 points and Rylee Taylor-Jefferson 10 for the Lady Pirates (5-6, 3-2 in league).

WHITEFISH — Braeden Gunlock scored 21 points and Bigfork seized control early in a Northwest A girls basketball win over Whitefish. 

Paeten Gunlock added 11 points for the Valkyries, who led 39-8 at halftime. By then Braeden Gunlock had two 3-pointers and 15 points. 

Allie Shors led Whitefish with seven.

LIBBY — Carmella Alfieri hit two 3-pointers to spark a Whitefish rally and finished with 10 points — all after halftime — in the Bulldogs’ Northwest A win. 

Allie Shors added eight points for Whitefish (3-6 overall, 1-3 in league games), which took a 25-20 lead into the fourth quarter and then hit enough free throws — six out of 14 — to hold on. 

Rachel Kosters and Madison Vincent each had eight points for Libby (1-10, 0-5 in league). Rylee Dalmas had seven points, including a three that cut the gap to 33-30 in the final minute.
