Orme keys A Lakers win at Harp tourney
Tait Orme drove in a pair of runs while Liam Rech and Beau Schultz picked up two hits each as the Kalispell A Lakers defeated the Tacoma Baseball Club 6-2 Saturday at the John R. Harp Tournament.
After a 2-0 start Friday, the Mission Valley Mariners dropped both their games, the first a 13-5 decision against Bozeman and the second a 3-1 loss to Tacoma.
The Kootenai Valley Rangers nabbed an early win against the Lethbridge Miners 6-5 and capped off the evening with a win over Lakers Red 14-13.
A Lakers 6, Tacoma 2
Orme put the Lakers (27-23) ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the third with a two-run double to center field that scored Rech and Schultz. Later in the inning, Geroge Schwan hit a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1.
Burke Shepard brought Tacoma within one with an RBI single in the fifth,
Kalispell extended the lead to 6-2 in the sixth as Rech singled to left field, scoring Fischer Lee. Schultz came home on an error.
Schwan went five innings on the mound for the Lakers, scattering three hits and allowing two runs. He fanned six. Jayce Wheeler threw two no-hit innings in relief, striking out three.
A Bucks 13, Mariners 5
Harvey Kimmel went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs for the Bucks.
Kimmel put the Bucks on the board in the first with an RBI single to center field, then drove in another run in the second on a double to left. After a seven-run frame, Bozeman led 10-3.
Cole Wadsworth went 2-for-4 for the Mariners (23-18), including a two-RBI single in the fifth that made it 13-5.
Tacoma 3, Mariners 1
Luke Viafore knocked in a run and the Tacoma Baseball Club capitalized on five Mariners errors.
Mission Valley took the lead in the second as Brayson DuMont scored after Wadsworth reached on an error. Tacoma shut down the Mariners from there.
Brady Wofford came home on a throwing error in the fourth, tying the game at one.
Another error gave Tacoma the lead before Viafore singled to make it 3-1.
Wadsworth went four innings on the mound, allowing one run and one hit. DuMont threw two innings of one-hit ball in relief.
Rangers 6, Miners 5
Max Barone finished with two hits and two RBIs for the Kootenai Valley Rangers, including the go-ahead RBI double in the sixth inning.
Lethbridge put the go-ahead run on in the top of the seventh, loading the bases with two outs before Rogan Lytle struck out Dylan Wojotowicz to end the game — the only batter Lytle faced.
Lytle tied the game with an RBI double before Barone’s double sent him home in the sixth.
Rowan Burow threw 6 2-3 innings for Kootenai Valley, allowing five runs on five hits. He fanned eight.
